The usual rambling
Chronologically....this post should have been preceded by another big but not-so-marvelous event but what-the-heck.... that can wait....
Pending for a long while now..., Looks like the writing bug in me goes off to long vacations as if.... Well, from the last hamamkhana musings to now...this one seems like yet another amusing revelation.
Ever pondered how human philosophies are so typically mammalian/ one that applies to all sorts of animal-bird life that the naked eyes can see...for instance the whole the concept of "survival of the fittest"(..Yes Mr. Darwin you unearthed the bitter truth that continued to inspire corporations and industrialists to this day and age....) is agreed true!! But as the Jains say.....truth has 7 facets....it is but the view point that determines the validity of the 'truth'....
No no no on....back to the truth....yes its true, but only relevant to every creature on the human-ly perceptible visual scale. Ever wondered whatever happened to the planet's old faithful great grand dad or mom or ....genani (pun intended:genesis+janani)of all life forms the bacteria???
Guess what? A new thought!
This post essays yet another of my literal bathroom thought bubbles as they transcend topics from biology, life sciences, mythology, philosophy, market forces and entrepreneurship. Phew...Im just amazed at the loaded thoughts I get clouded with these days....
Hmm... getting back to the bacteria. Isn't it amazing to see the species to be so fool-hardy that it lasts eons and might continue to thrive who knows forever may be....!? The Bacteria resonates to me the image of a self-sustained unit that builds myriads of relationships in nature irrespective of its human-ly imperceptible scale and size in the whole life sciences pyramid. Thats what I call the microbial existence.....one that seems mindless, unintelligent and mundane to the tasteless but in actuality is an epitome of ever-dynamic, extremely intelligent and nifty system of survival and perpetuation..... Looks like of all species on Earth....the bacteria has actually cracked the code of survival.........!Ti-Ding!
Btw...did I mention this post is giving me the feeling that its probably an over-wordy looooooooooong short story in itself.....??Well I just did....
Cut to the new ecstatic discovery.....the intelligent microbe! So.....in the war of the brains(.....comm'on I just have one, what I meant was the two sides of one ...) I guess the right one tried to infuse some sense (rather strange though) into this seemingly whimsical idea....so it cooked up ideas to prove that the bacteria was the HERO or King of the whole life system on earth.....wait for some more crazy parallels..
The omnipresent resilient one.
The bacteria has pretty much remained the same in form which it has many (but in function atleast to my limited knowledge kept evolving and changing and adapting..see this from Wiki: Bacteria, algae and fungi have been identified in amber that is 220 million years old, which shows that the morphology of microorganisms has changed little since the Triassic period.) It has also given way to creating a whole gamut of different looking copies through evolution over some billion years. (Heres more: " for most of the history of life on Earth the only forms of life were microorganisms. Evolution tree of life dominated by bacteria as originators")
This cellular body is so omnipresent in ether, air, water, earth, acid, volcano (read this: Microorganisms live in all parts of the biosphere where there is liquid water, including soil, hot springs, on the ocean floor, high in the atmosphere and deep inside rocks within the Earth's crust. ); that it is reminiscent of the Hindu mythology of God (referring to Vishnu the creator of Brahma the creator of earth and life) says to his devotees that he is present in KaN KaN or every grain/ smallest entity. Did the wise old men from the yore mean the bacteria... ahem...too far fetched.
Well, one another observation, the bacteria when seen from sociological point of view has dynamic relationships with its own breed and the rest of the lifeforms and the ecosystem. It ranges from neutral, to friendly, to catalyst to parasite to I am at a loss of words here....but you get the picture right....
The whole business of existence
Here is where I bring in the final analogy of the business environment and the microbial existence of the bacteria. And here is where I reveal my career and life's aspirations of emulating or learning from a success story of the Bacteria.....These cellular life forms to me are somewhat like independent professionals or free lancers or the more appealing free radicals that are aplenty in the market/ business arena. What I am trying to arrive at is understanding the relationship between freelance professionals and the established hierarchical small, medium firms and huge corporations.
While some bacteria offer food to small, medium and even huge creatures, some help digest food like catalysts while residing within those bigger creatures and some also become fatal to the very existence of the life forms hierarchy.Often the relationship of freelancers can be seen in a similar manner...with peers and some firms they may be neutral, symbiotic or at times even detrimental to the very existence of corporate giants. Remember the numerous stories of how one garage invention left big companies go haywire and even giving them a run for their money........ My whole analogy is keeping in mind the creative industry....which is especially relevant to me at this point as I embark on to this voyage of experimenting life as a microbial existence. Small insignificant yet a valid agent of change and movement.
Traits of the trade
Creative industry is often fed by the works of freelancers who choose to lead a life that comes with its share of anonymity but great freedom and power. What is also interesting to see is how the cluster of bacteria can move the digestive system in mammals and a bunch of freelancers pretty much in the same way get together to create a unique collaborative creative endeavor that works for big corporations or the industry at large.
Bacteria have a unique way of multiplying exponentially without the pains of sexual reproduction....(read this: bacteria can also freely exchange genes by conjugation, transformation and transduction between widely-divergent species.)...they atain their goal of perpetuation by creating two from one.....pretty much like a freelancers who grow in their endeavors with practice and experience as an individual without having to worry about pay hikes, investments, loans, salaries, employee funds, board of directors etc....and yet gain more with experience returns are greater...
Isn't it an amazing life, philosophical and business/work model to learn from.....the bacteria chooses to lead a microscopic life but grows, multiplies and thrives in myriad environments with its unique and invisible adaptive engine.......much like freelancers who with small establishments fight global economies through their highs and lows, freelancers continue to exist..they always seem to find their use even in the toughest of times....Here is where I extend the freelancers purview to a range of professional lives be it artists, teachers, engineers, coders, programmers, craftspeople, farmers, scientists...you name it.......
Age of the bloom
Bacteria dont need a 'conducive' environment to thrive thanks to their resilience and adaptability... (This horizontal gene transfer, coupled with a high mutation rate and many other means of genetic variation, allows microorganisms to swiftly evolve (via natural selection) to survive in new environments and respond to environmental stresses.)but when it does come a conducive environment is a haven to breed, much like the times we all dwell in. With the decade of rampant internet, open source, freeware, community driven tools and environments in the wide wired world, freelancers thrive like fungi on cheese. To remind myself of yet another microbe but a little more harmful that the predominantly benign bacteria....with some exceptions...., the point is that 21st century is seeming to prove that microbial enterprises can thrive as independent organisms, as catalysts to larger organisations or as groups of like-minded individuals that together co-create and contribute towards more resources and pool of talent.
So, for all the marketing champions who all started small with the big dream of making it big....heres the catch....big doesn't mean a monolithic monument, big can be flexible, vast, dynamic and ever changing, self-replenishing modular units like cellular microbial existence. Here's to the small dream of making it big!
Again comes the rambling, thank god its the last.
This odd little whimsical brain-wave would be an interesting subject to return to with valid excerpts and proofs from live examples (ahem....) to see whether microbial existence can indeed be preached as an entrepreneurial mission. Well, back to the Jain truth funda, this is only one perspective and besides, its not sensible to completely shun the existence of macro organisations either....without the big fishes belly to dwell in where would the poor microbe get its nutrients...(if im right about this concept). Like all things in nature, a subtle balance of small, medium and big is the key to welfare in general. But, again for argument's sake, in rough times you know who will continue to thrive...!:)

This post indeed sparked serious interest in me to pursue the subject in greater breadth and depth...the following few posts are proof to it.
